The earliest picture found of SNBC (Southgate Non-Descript Bicycle Club) taken at the Ice Wells in 1883.
The Ice Wells were on the north side of Winchmore Hill road, where the swimming pool now stands. It was owned by the Simmonds family and ice came from the damming of Hounsden Gutter which now runs under The Vale. The site had a gymnasium with equipment.

Another picture of SNBC (Southgate Non-Descript Bicycle Club) taken at the Ice Wells, probably taken sometime after 1883.
